9/11 cover up

This is an illustration about Rudy Giuliani's cover up; Mayor Giuliani wanting to clean up the city quickly without caring about the air quality or long term effect on people.

Aging

This is an illustration about whether we can stop/cure aging or not.

The Reluctatnt Dragon

I was given a project to do a book illustration of a story "The Reluctant Dragon". I chose to illustrate what a Japanese version would be, and here are the sketches and the final of the boy, the dragon, and the samurai. I wanted to paint this somewhat flat, but I was afraid it might look too flat on one layer, so I decided to put more than one layer to get some depth. It was harder than I thought to paint on acrylic paper pads.. and it sure wasn't easy to cut out those delicate lines.. I had to really focus on the tip of the knife so I didn't even realize that I had cut my finger until my finger was covered with blood, which I thought was a red acrylic paint!! But I enjoyed crafting in spite of the pain :)

Illustration Friday -Little Things-

Global warming has been one of the big issues for a while now. Some say that the North Pole will melt away by the year 2040, and also 2/3 of polar bears will die by the year 2050. We may not be able to completely stop the global warming, but there are "little things" that we can do to slow down the process, such as idling stop, recycling, less use of water and electricity, etc.. And little things can turn into something big.

No Music No Life

I just can't live without it.

Legs legs legs...

How to survive the cold weather

It's getting pretty cold here in NY. I need to find a nice blanket to keep myself warm...

Illustration Friday -The Zoo-

I finally decided to participate in Illustration Friday.
Did a quick sketch of a polar bear sharing his life story with his friend lion. Colored with Photoshop.
As much as I love visiting zoos, I feel bad for the animals that are trapped in small cages..

Another doodle

Sometimes I wish I could just hold down "command key + z" and "undo" in real life...

Manneken Pis on subway

This is my 4th year living in NYC, and I've always wanted to make this ever since I came here..!! Every time I take subways I can't help seeing this little hole thingy as a manneken pis... I wonder if I'm the only one... (I added the pee in case you're wondering!) But anyways, I feel so refreshed to finally have created this.. Whew :)

Did some sketch on subway as usual. Sometimes it's hard to tell what's real and what's not.

Airport & Airplane

What better thing to do at an airport or on a plane? :)

Something new

I've been using this site only for my artwork, but I'd like to try something new and post a video that has nothing to do with my art :) It's so cute I had to put this up! (It was at a state fair in North Carolina, and it's not my voice that you're hearing!)

Sketches (mainly animals)

These are some sketches I've done just recently. All of them, except for my friend, are drawn from photo references. I really enjoy drawing animals.

Sleep Paralysis

This is an illustration of "Kanashibari", sleeping paralysis. I used to have it almost every other night when I was younger, and this is based on my own experience.

Basically sketches..

It's been a while since I last posted here..
I'm going to put some of my rough sketches/ideas of the project that I'll be working on.

These are the sketches I did for the project to illustrate "communication". I decided to go with the mice having a class (this idea was based on my own experience) and it'll be in full color.

The last one is just a sketch I did in Soho.

Brooklyn Bridge

I very much enjoy creating/drawing for someone I care about, and this is something I made for my parents. I hope they will like it :)

Hitchhike dog

I was just doodling with Illustrator and Photoshop thinking how it would be cool if my dog came to NY all the way from Japan just to see me.

About 2 years ago, I had an opportunity to work as a greeting card designer. These are some of the samples of my cards.

Rock Stars

These are illustrations of John Lennon and Stevie Wonder. I originally painted these with acrylics, but I wanted to give them more graphic look, so I redid them using Illustrator.

Memoirs of a Geisha II

This is my second book cover for the "Memoirs of a Geisha". I wanted to make the umbrella fade into the background, in which I wasn't very successful.. I know it looks a little weird, and it could've been better, but I'm happy with the figure. Unlike the first one I did (posted underneath), this time I worked with Photoshop just to start off and used the Corel Painter for the most part.

Fantasy Oil Painting

This is my second oil painting that I did over the past few months. I wanted to create a peaceful, fantasy atmosphere. I had a struggle with the texture of the elephant in particular, and it could've been worked on more, but overall, I'm happy with how it came out.

Conceptual Illustration

The theme is "the difference between what we assume to to be true and the reality of what is true". I wanted to show how people can be superficial, as if they are wearing a mask.

Storyboard

This is a storyboard from one of my favorite movies "Fight Club" It was my first time to make a storyboard and although it was more time-consuming than I thought (you can tell by the posting time -it's already 5:30 in the morning! Birds are chirping outside...), I enjoyed the creating process.

The Beatles

These are illustrations inspired by the songs called "Blackbird" "Strawberry Fields Forever" "I'm Only Sleeping" by The Beatles. I wanted to make them look simple using only lines and dots.
